K-Electric’s response

Letter August 13, 2018
There are some areas of the city where theft and kundas are still heavily prevalent

Apropos the letter published in The Express Tribune on 19th July titled ‘Power Cuts and Students’, K-Electric would like to apprise the reader that the power supply in the city is normal whilst 63% of the city experiences no load-shedding at all. As the writer of the letter has not mentioned any area, it is hard to comment on specifics. However, we can confirm that the allegation of unannounced load-shedding in Karachi is incorrect. There are some areas of the city where theft and kundas are still heavily prevalent due to which some areas experience more faults which should not be misconstrued as load-shedding. Our teams are available 24/7 for rectification of these faults to minimise the inconvenience caused by this unfortunate menace of kundas. We reiterate that KE is committed to eradicating theft and has launched

the biggest anti-power theft drive in the country while also investing significantly in infrastructure upgrades and introduction of Aerial Bundled Cables. We are also cognisant of the needs of students and during the recent intermediate board examinations, centres were exempted from load-shedding. KE always remains in contact with different important organisations and utility-providers for faster resolution of faults and solutions. KE also hopes that the student community will raise their voice against power theft and its negative impact on society. Complaints against illegal connections can be raised anonymously via speakup@ke.com.pk.
