BAP all set to take over the reins of Balochistan

Six-party alliance nominates former CM Abdul Quddus Bizenjo as speaker

QUETTA: Balochistan Governor Muhammad Khan Achakzai has convened the first session of the 11th Balochistan Assembly on Monday (today).

The assembly session will kick off at 11am in which 62 of 65 members would take oath as members of provincial assembly (MPAs).
Speaker Rahila Hameed Khan Durrani will administer the oath to the newly-elected members.

Nomination papers for the slots of speaker and deputy speaker would be submitted in the afternoon.

After the election of the speaker, the outgoing speaker, Durrani, will administer oath to the new speaker and hand over the speaker’s seat.
Balochistan Assembly Secretary Shamsullah said, “The new speaker will conduct the election of the office of the deputy speaker. The new speaker will then administer oath to the new deputy speaker.”

CM Bizenjo says BAP will end differences among people

The six parties’ alliance, including BAP, ANP, HDP, BNP-Awami and Jamhoori Watan Party, had already jointly nominated Abdul Quddus Bizenjo for the slot of speaker. However, the alliance has so far not announced the name of the deputy speaker.

It is learnt that another parliamentary group, comprising Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) and Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA), will jointly nominate their candidates for the slots of speaker and deputy speaker. However, the two parties’ alliance has yet to announce the names of their candidates.

Sources said that the election of the leader of the house is expected on August 17. The nomination for the leader of the house will be submitted on August 15 and according to the rules, voting will be held for the leader of house after two days of submitting nomination papers.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan allotted reserved seats in National Assembly, provincial assemblies and minorities on Saturday.

According to the ECP, one female reserved seat was allotted to each Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, MMA and BNP-M. In the provincial assembly, 10 of 11 reserved women’s seats were allotted to the parties in Balochistan Assembly.

According to the ECP, the BAP, which has 19 seats after joining of four independent MPAs, got four women’s reserved seats and one reserved minorities’ seat that increased the strength of BAP to 24 in the house of 65.

BNP-M got two women and one minorities seats. MMA was allotted two women and one minorities seats. The PTI and the Awami National Party could get one women’s reserved seat each. About the 11th women’s reserved seat, it will be decided between BNP-A and the PTI over a toss.
