Supreme Court: Petition challenges ‘Rs518b loan write-off’

He asked the court to summon the former State Bank governors and recover the loans with interest.

A petition has been filed at the Supreme Court Lahore registry for the recovery of Rs518 billion in loans allegedly written off to various politicians during former president General (retired) Pervez Musharraf’s rule.


Barrister Zafarullah Khan filed the petition on Saturday. It alleged that during Musharraf’s rule, Rs256 billion of the said loans were written off by former State Banks governors Dr Ishrat Hussain, Dr Shamshad Akhtar and Saleem Raza.

He submitted that these loans were illegally written off and with the objective of strengthening Musharraf’s rule.

He asked the court to summon the former State Bank governors and recover the loans with interest.
