Atif Aslam responds to Independence Day parade controversy

Loyal fans of the artist were quick to stand up for him

Yesterday, attendees of a Pakistani Independence Day parade in New York called out local singing sensation Atif Aslam for performing Indian songs at the event. While some criticised the Aadat singer for his act, many of Atif's loyal fans were quick to stand up for him.

After the much-heated debate on Twitter, Atif has finally released his statement on the matter. Starting off with #NeverGiveUp, he said, "Simply love my haters. Undoubtedly, Allah is the only one who can make someone worthy of respect or not. The Pakistani flag is my identity and my fans know that I respect it a lot. I'm glad that my fans know how to deal with propaganda against me."

Atif hoped that 'Naya Pakistan' can help people realise that they need to respect others, especially those who work hard everyday to make the country proud.

Earlier, Shafqat Amanat Ali also came to Atif's rescue. The Khamaaj singer, who has previously been at the receiving end of such hate, seemed to sympathise for Atif. He wrote, "I stand in support with Atif for singing his songs at the parade. Music is not Indian or Pakistani. It's just music. Singers are synonymous with their songs which are loved equally by fans from every country." Acknowledging the gesture, Atif thanked Amanat for his continuous support.

At the parade, Atif sang one of his Indian tracks, Tera Hone Laga Hoon from the 2009 film Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani starring Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif.
