Independence Day: Commercial activities on the rise in twin cities

Food outlets offering discounts to celebrate the occasion, boutiques present Azadi dresses

ISLAMABAD: Twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad have witnessed an increase in business activities as preparations are in full swing to celebrate Independence Day with national fervor. In each market, roads and streets of twin cities have national flags, badges and bunting stalls established by the vendors which is attracting a large number of people.

The national flags and bunting stall owner at Zero Point Interchange said that the demand for national flags and badges is on the rise as August 14 getting nearer, adding that several motorists have been buying flags to hoist on their cars. Another vendor said that Independence Day always increases their business activities, adding that he also offers special discount rates to facilitate buyers.

Similarly, the bakery business has also boosted due to a high demand of sweets and cakes ahead of Independence Day. The bakeries also claimed that they will offer special discounted rates in celebration of Independence Day. Shopkeepers also started decorating their shops with national flags ahead of Independence Day. Various government and non-government organisations have also started illuminating their buildings ahead of Independence Day. The business of decoration and lights shops are also attracting a large number of people.

Food to celebrate freedom

After Azadi dresses and other accessories, different food outlets have started introducing `Azadi Meals' to add more charm to the festivity of Independence Day. The youngsters who were busy in buying flags, buntings, pin badges, stickers, balloons, Azadi dresses, are now planning to visit food outlets of their choice to enjoy special meals being offered on Azadi day.

Only a few food outlets in the capital have announced to offer `Azadi Meal' on the day this year.

"It is good that food outlets are also taking part in Independence Day celebrations by offering discounted meals on the day," said a young girl Irum Nazir. She added, "I hardly saw any restaurant during the previous years' independence days to offer a special meal. It will be a unique trend.”

Shahnawaz, a resident of F-10 Markaz said, "One of the food outlets in my locality is offering `Azadi meal package' and I will definitely go for it."

He said, "like Aftari and Sehri meal packages, now eateries in the capital are also coming forward to become a part of Independence Day festivities by offering meal packages on the day." Saadia Khan, a young girl said, "Independence Day is in no way less exciting for me than the Eid festival as I bought a green and white colour dress to celebrate the occasion with matching bangles, badges and other stuff to celebrate the day." She said, "I am also looking forward to going out to places specially decorated for the occasion and having meals with my friends.”
