Apropos a news story published in The Express Tribune issue of August 8, 2018 under the caption ‘Supreme Court orders lowering tax rates on locally-assembled vehicles’, the apex court has issued the following clarification:

“Reference a news story “Supreme Court orders lowering tax rates on locally-assembled vehicles” published in section of media (Express Tribune dated 08.08.2018) and a fake order of Supreme Court, viral on social media, containing number Crl.O.P. NO.2158 of 2018 regarding Price Hike Case against the Automobile Industry in Pakistan, wherein, it was stated that Supreme Court directed Finance ministry and FBR to reduce taxes from 33% to 25%.

“It is, therefore, clarified that the news item is totally false and baseless and Supreme Court has not passed any such order. Supreme Court of Pakistan has taken serious notice of it and action is being taken against the delinquents concocting misleading and false stories. Therefore, clarification be published to set the record right."
