Interim US envoy meets PTI chief

Discusses bilateral relations, trade and stability in Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD: Ups and downs in the US Pakistan relationship is an outcome of trust deficit, the PTI government would build a relationship with the US based on mutual respect and trust, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan told the Interim United States (US) Ambassador John F Hoover on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, a delegation led by the US envoy called on PTI chief at his residence in Bani Gala and felicitated him over his party’s victory in the general elections.



According to details issued by the party’s central media department, issues of mutual interest including Pakistan-US relations, bilateral trade, and stability in Afghanistan came under discussion during the meeting.

Imran thanked the delegation and said Pakistan and the US have witnessed many ups and downs in their relationship which were the outcome of trust deficit between the two countries.

PTI, Imran said, wants to build relationship with US based on trust and mutual respect and hence our government will engage with the US to make this relationship more balanced and trustworthy.

“We count trade and economic relations with the United States extremely important,” he said. He also emphasised on revitalisation of diplomatic ties between the two countries and stressed upon the need to transform it for the benefit of both Pakistan and the United States.

Shedding light upon the significance of stability in Afghanistan PTI chief stressed on political solution of the looming crisis in Afghanistan.



“I am glad that people in the US have ultimately started acknowledging significance of political solution as conflict and use of force can add to the damages instead of breeding a sustainable solution to the crisis,” Imran was quoted as saying to the delegation.

Stability in Afghanistan, he said, is in the larger interests of Pakistan, America and the region and hence should be earned through viable political engagements.
