JI will wait for Imran’s welfare state: Siraj

Says political parties should come forward to make ECP more independent

QUETTA: The Jamat-e-Islami (JI) leader Sirajul Haq on Tuesday said that the party will support Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) positive initiatives but oppose all negative steps.

Addressing a news conference in Quetta, he said, “Peaceful and developed Balochistan is a guarantee of prosperous Pakistan. The centre should fulfill its responsibilities towards Balochistan because in the 21st century, people here are still living without such basic facilities as clean drinking water and electricity.”

The JI leader said that all the political parties should come forward to launch a joint movement to make the ECP more independent and impartial. "We have been waiting for Imran Khan’s announcement of making Pakistan a welfare state like Madina,” he said, referring to Imran Khan’s pledges for a better Pakistan.



The party’s general secretary Liaquat Baloch, provincial amir Maulana Abdul Haq Hashmi, and provincial general secretary Hidayatur Rehman Baloch accompanied the JI chief.

Siraj ul Haq said that people of Balochistan have witnessed regime change four times in a short span but the plight of the deprived people of Balochistan is still the same. “Unfortunately, a flawed system has been imposed in the country, which worsens the people’s plight and despite the tall claims, poverty is rapidly increasing,” he added.

He said that the exercise of general elections proved a wasted effort since the public mandate had been thrown into the garbage. He said despite passage of weeks the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) failed in issuing the final results on Form 45.

He said that protests are not the solution for “our reservations, political parties should sit together and introduce a new strategy for free and fair elections.”

He said that the ECP should acknowledge its failure in holding transparent elections in the country. With regards to the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), he said that the CPEC is a fortune changing project for Balochistan and its benefits should be distributed among the masses on the basis of equality.
