Congo virus and Eidul Azha

Congo virus is a viral disease found in numerous wild and domestic animals

PESHAWAR: Eidul Azha is just round the corner and as cattle traders enter major urban centres in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, there are fears of an outbreak of Congo virus. The fear especially stems from two cases of Congo virus already reported in the province.

One case has been reported from Bannu and the second from Buner. But few appear to be aware of the dangers of the virus, especially during Eidul Azha.

Congo virus is a viral disease found in numerous wild and domestic animals, such as big animals, goats and sheep. It is transmitted to humans through contact with infected ticks or animal blood. There are fears of an outbreak of Congo virus during Eidul Azha.

It therefore becomes necessary for the K-P government to conduct an inspection of all the cattle coming into the province.

The relevant authorities should do the needful at the earliest to save precious human lives.
