Hearing of 256 school heads begins today

It will continue till August 10 and school heads from each district will be heard

LAHORE: A total of 256 school heads from all districts of the province will begin presenting their defense for poor results in the Matriculation (SSC) Annual Examinations 2018 on Monday (today).

As per the instructions of the Directorate of Public Instructions (SE), all districts education officers (SE) have been given the dates of personal hearing for each of the district and have been told to direct the accused school heads to bring their response and justification for the poor results in their schools.

School heads to be charged under PEEDA Act

The hearing will continue till August 10 and school heads from each district would be heard during the hearings.

According to the data of the poor results, a total of 256 schools from all over the province have been deemed unsatisfactory by the department. Out of these, the government-run schools from the Rawalpindi division had the highest numbers of poor results as compiled by the department. Rawalpindi division had been found to have a total of 80 school heads called because of the poor results in the annual examination.

The second highest is the Dera Ghazi Khan division with 49 schools with poor results called in for poor results. The Gujranwala division had 40, Faisalabad 37, Sargodha and Lahore divisions with 12 each, Sahiwal 10, Bahawalpur 9 and Multan with the lowest number – 7.

Similarly, the Rawalpindi district has the highest number of poor results with 45 school heads to present their defense from the district. On the opposite side, the Chiniot district had no government school performing poorly in the matriculation examinations. Meanwhile, the Sheikhupura, Multan, Khanewal, Sahiwal, and Bhakkar districts had only one school head each to appear for the poor results.

Earlier, the District Education Authorities (DEAs) Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) were told to prepare a list of the schools in their jurisdiction as per the results of their respective institutions and submit it to the office of the Director Public Instructions (SE). Furthermore, the CEOs have been told to take action against the low-performing school heads in their jurisdictions. The officials were told that the school heads whose schools performed poorly in the exam would be charged under the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability (PEEDA) Act 2006.

According to the letter sent to the CEOs, "The School Education Department, Government of Punjab has desired that the heads of the institution showing good results be awarded appreciation letter and whereas the heads who have shown poor performance be dealt with under PEEDA Act 2006 as per previous practice."
