Burning Concerns: Woman set on fire by in-laws

The girl’s in-laws were unhappy with the union and the family quarrelled frequently.

A women was burnt by her in-laws on Thursday. The incident took place in the 462 GB village of Samundarri after the victim allegedly quarrelled with her mother-in-law. Doctors said that the victim, Neelam, 24, was in critical condition and had been admitted to the Allied Hospital Burn Unit. According to police, Neelam (24) married Mohammad Latif 5 years ago and had two sons. The girl’s in-laws were unhappy with the union and the family quarrelled frequently. On Thursday, Neelam was locked in a room by her sister-in-law Zahida and her mother-in-law Basheeran Begum. Both women sprinkled kerosene oil on the girl and set her on fire. Her cries alerted the neighbourhood, and she was rescued. Civil Hospital Samundarri DSP has registered a case against the accused and started an investigation.
