Respecting our flag

Letter August 05, 2018
Just few days are left for the Independence Day of Pakistan to be observed

KARACHI: Just few days are left for the Independence Day of Pakistan to be observed, flags and other merchandise are being sold almost at every street in the country with full zest. Children and adults both are spending their money on purchasing this merchandise to decorate their houses and cars.

The Independence Day will once again be marked with patriotic songs being played in schools and special transmissions being aired on TV channels. However, it will also see our flags and other merchandise with the colour of our flags being thrown on the streets as soon as the festive mood is over.

Streets and roads will be covered with torn pieces of flags. This not only litters our streets and roads but also goes on to show that the respect for our flag is only limited to a few hours of festivity. As soon as this festive mood fades away so does the respect for our country’s flag as we don’t bother about throwing it away.

Such an attitude is not only witnessed in our children, the adults in the country also behave the same way. Perhaps this year we should make a pledge not to adopt such disrespect against our flag and also stop others from behaving in such a manner. We should be the change we want to see in others.
