From extravagant gowns to experimental kurtas, Mumbai saw it all on the night of July 31. Here's a list of four personalities that caught my attention.
1. Angad Bedi in Shantanu Nikhil
Bedi is probably more known for his marriage to Neha Dhupia than his acting roles. Nonetheless, he arrived at the awards in style, wearing a Shantany Nikhil number (let's just ignore Dhupia and her choice of clothing though, shall we?).
Clad in a black kurta pajama, Bedi sure made me look twice. After thoroughly examining his kameez, I was in awe. The ambitious design entwined with the simple features truly came together as a masterpiece, in my eyes. The sherwani collar with the zip detailing gave the traditional attire a modern touch, as did the rolled up sleeves. The shirt's front resembled an angrakha, wrapped to one side and the pleated cloth flowing down to his ankles.
The Pink actor accessorised with a customary bangle and wedding ring. Black velvet loafers rounded off his look.
2. Kangana Ranaut in Gaurav Gupta for Liva
Bollywood's 'Queen' made more than just a statement with her ferocious look. Ranaut went for bold as she rocked a red Gaurav Gupta gown.
The balloon-style really worked for the actor. The waist was cinched in with the upper half of the dress bearing resemblance to a corset, boned for added drama and structure. I'm not quite sure how to feel about the theatrical, strapless neckline - maybe it just needs getting use to. And I think that's what Ranaut was going for, what with the dark nails and lips.
The Simran star was pretty bare in terms of accessories, sporting nothing but a V-shaped diamond necklace. Her hair was sleeked back and skin bronzed, with dark brown smokey eyes.
Deepika Padukone or Kangana Ranaut: Who wore it better?
3. Rajkummar Rao in Hugo Boss
The Newton star played with many textures in this Hugo Boss outfit. Maroon and velvet will forever be one of my most favourite combinations so it's no surprise that I like this ensemble. With that nicely fit velvet blazer, Rao sported satin pants, that's right... satin! And they look great. A crisp white shirt and skinny black tie was a safe but apt choice, so as to not overdo it.
Adding another texture were his patent loafers, which actually complemented the whole look perfectly, as velvet ones might have been a bit too matchy-matchy.
4. Janhvi Kapoor in Ralph & Russo
Kapoor graced the red carpet of her very first Vogue India event garbed in a luxurious Ralph & Russo dress. She looked like a dream in the intricately embellished white cape gown and the feather details made it just that little bit more feminine.
Some may say the off-shoulder cape design is so-yesterday but it worked for her so I'm definitely not complaining. The Dhadak star added to her ensemble with a pair of diamond stud earrings and luminous, blushed makeup with Hollywood waves.
