Due to the country’s outdated voting and counting system, the ECP is now to embark upon another exercise
LAHORE: Unfortunately due to the country’s outdated voting and counting system that the Election Commission is now to embark upon another exercise. First, voting, then the counting and announcement of the results and then the ‘recount’ of the votes in constituencies where evidences of rigging have been brought before the commission. Ironically, even after eight days of the general election, the Election Commission is yet to conclude the poll process.
With the Election Commission’s Result Transmission System App reportedly crashing on a day when it is supposed to function well, it is evident how well organised and well managed the recent polls were.
If the present system of vote casting and counting continues into the next general elections we will only be disappointed to see more of the same. It is time the Election Commission gave serious thought to the issue so as to avoid a similar situation in the next general elections.
