KARACHI:

Labelling clinics that perform hair transplants and liposuction as centres of quackery, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has decided to initiate legal action against them.

The council’s anti-quackery committee has ordered the compilation of a legal draft and has sought a report of all such clinics operating in the four provinces and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The chairman of the PMDC’s anti-quackery committee, Dr Ali Farhan said that over 600,000 quacks are running clinics, maternity homes and dentistry services as well as performing liposuction and hair transplants.

He added that these quacks get diplomas and certificates from Singapore, Bangkok and then set up small clinics to swindle people.

“There are qualified people to perform these procedures, which require the use of surgical equipment,” he added. On February 23, the Sindh Assembly passed a resolution against quacks.
