KARACHI: Former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar has high hopes of cricketer-turned politician Imran Khan to put the country on the right track after his party — Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) — emerged as the most successful one in the recently held General Elections.

Legendary all-rounder Imran Khan — who was the captain of the 1992 World Cup winning side — is the head of the political party which he established in 1996.

Akhtar, who has represented the Men in Green in 46 Tests, 163 ODIs and 15 T20Is, believes Khan has the ability of making Pakistan the ‘Asian Tiger’.

“I believe that he can help Pakistan become Asian Tiger but the whole nation must stand by his side if we are to succeed,” said Akhtar while talking to media after meeting Khan.

The Rawalpindi Express was also hopeful that Khan and his party will bring a positive change in the country rather than being a disappointment for the people of Pakistan.

“I would like to congratulate the entire nation and workers of PTI,” he said. “I’m confident that Imran bhai will deliver in accordance with the expectations of the people of Pakistan.”

Akhtar also heaped praise on the former Pakistan captain by stating that one thing which make PTI stands out among all the other political parties is the charismatic personality of the 65-year-old, and also believes that the success was down to Khan’s never say die attitude.

“Other parties did put up a good fight but they did not have the presence of [Imran] Khan in their ranks,” he said. “He has a never say die attitude coupled with determination and hard work which is the main reason behind his success.”
