Emraan Hashmi to star in Shah Rukh Khan's Netflix production

'The Bard of Blood' is based on a bestselling 2015 book of the same name by Bilal Siddiqi

Indian actor Emraan Hashmi, mostly known for his explicit Bollywood film scenes, has been roped in for the lead role of upcoming Netflix show The Bard of Blood.

The political multilingual thriller is produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, the production label of superstar Shah Rukh Khan, reported Variety.

The Bard of Blood is set in the Indian subcontinent and tells the story of an ousted spy, played by Hashmi. His new life sees him as a Shakespeare professor but his role as a spy is soon revised to save his country and former love.

“A combination of combat skills, intellectual background and personal circumstances propel (him) to avenge the past and face his deadliest enemies in a race against time,” Netflix said in a statement. The Bard of Blood is based on a bestselling 2015 book of the same name by Bilal Siddiqi. Plans of this series were first announced back in November by the streaming giant.

The most recent tweet from the official Twitter account of Netflix India read, "God has given you one face and you make another. Emraan Hashmi is Kabir Anand in The Bard of Blood!"

In reponse, the Murder actor tweeted, "'To be, or not to be'... The answer is to be. Ready 'to be' Kabir Anand. Excited to be a part of this thrilling journey!"
