PML-N seeks to form govt in Punjab

In 2013 PML-N respected PTI's mandate in K-P, recalls Hamza Shehbaz

LAHORE: Leading with a mere five seats in the Punjab Assembly as per latest results, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hamza Shahbaz has has expressed his party's desire to form a government in Punjab.

Addressing a press conference, Hamza said the PML-N had respected Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) mandate in 2013 and no obstacles were placed in the party's path when it formed a government in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. “At a time when Pakistan is facing challenges, we should work with harmony. We do not lust for power but our mandate should be respected.”



Hamza added that the PML-N will be holding talks with Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) for possible coalition.

On premier-in-waiting Imran Khan’s victory speech, the son of former Punjab chief minister praised the speech. “But we will have to wait until he implements it,” he added.

Meanwhile, official election results continued to trickle in as the PTI emerges as the strongest party in the centre with over 110 seats. PML-N trails with 62. In Punjab Assembly, the Shehbaz Sharif-led party secured 127 seats while PTI bagged 122.
