The charm of printed words

Letter July 22, 2018
Technology has facilitated our lives in an unprecedented manner

KARACHI: The manner in which technological advancement, mass convenience and other fancy terms like these have caught our imagination and technology has facilitated our lives is as noticeable as it is unprecedented. The rising popularity of e-books is, however, not something I’m too keen about. The avid reader in me is in love with the physical beauty that printed books hold, the scent of fresh pages, and the spontaneity with which a well-designed book cover lying on a shelf captures your attention, unique feelings that a rechargeable digital screen can never provide. I am neither opposed to nor oblivious of the advancement of technology and how many people today prefer to read off a screen than a book, yet in all forms a digital screen cannot easily outdo the charm of words on paper.
