Noble profession of teaching

Pakistan will face a crisis situation in its education sector due to a shortage of sincere and good teachers

KARACHI: The youth of today have many aspirations and goals, and look forward to a bright future — albeit by treading a path of their own. While many aspire to secure good jobs in different work fields, very few are passionate about teaching and educating the future generations. It is proven that a motivated, committed and a qualified teacher can contribute towards students’ mental and intellectual development. However, given the current situation, it is not hard to assume that Pakistan will face a crisis situation in its education sector due to a shortage of sincere and good teachers as many from the current lot are heading towards retirement and not many from the new generation want to get into the teaching profession. It simply is not attracting the most promising and qualified prospective individuals anymore. Moreover, it is time the issue was considered seriously and policies and advocacy campaigns undertaken to enhance the image of this profession. The government holds the responsibility of promoting the teaching profession by increasing salaries and benefits, and enhancing the social prestige of the profession.
