The curse of beggary

Letter July 20, 2018
Beggary in all forms has always been considered a social evil caused by poverty

QUETTA: Beggary in all forms has always been considered a social evil caused by poverty, illiteracy, and poor socio-economic conditions. Beggars even in some of the posh localities of major cities are a common eyesore. Beggary has rather become a flourishing business for many. Many among these young beggars are capable of earning a livelihood in a respectable manner, yet they choose to engage in beggary. The criminals who run such mafias and force the young to beg on roads should be given exemplary punishment. By giving alms to these beggars, we do not help them. We should provide help for their education and rehabilitation. The government must take stern action against professional beggars. Those who are able bodied must be made to work and earn honest living. Those suffering from physical and mental disabilities and the old should be accommodated in old-age homes.
