Unusual Case: Cattle auctioning lands official in court
PESHAWAR:
Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday put the Jamrud Tehsil assistant political agent (APA) and other respondents on notice to appear before the court and explain a matter related to the auction of buffaloes belonging to of the petitioner. The division bench the High Court comprising Justice Shahjahan Khan and Justice Dost Muhammad Khan summoned Jamrud Tehsil APA on June 1 to explain whether it was the duty of the political administration or Customs Department to auction the buffalos of petitioner Munir Abid. The petitioner’s counsel claimed that cattle transporter Munir Abid was taking 137 buffalos to Afghanistan via Jamrud when officials of the political administration stopped him and auctioned 52 of his buffaloes worth Rs3 million. He claimed the buffaloes were seized by the political administration on charges of illegal transportation to Afghanistan without paying custom duty. He contended that the petitioner had obtained a NOC for transporting the cattle and the political administration had no jurisdiction to seize or auction his buffaloes.
