‘Unfair’ marking

There have been petitions and protests against the Cambridge International Examination Board over ‘unfair’ marking

LAHORE: Previously, there have been petitions and protests against the Cambridge International Examination Board over ‘unfair’ marking. Some have argued that there has been inconsistency in marking of the examination papers for many years and that the examiners mark the copies inaccurately to earn more money as a re-evaluation of a paper costs Rs50,000. I also believe part of the problem lies in the fact that the examiners are paid on the basis of how many papers they mark. Exam boards are ‘guesstimating’ grades rather than actually marking them. The prevailing situation calls for reform within the examination process in that the examiners should receive a fixed remuneration for marking a fixed number of papers and that it should not be based on the number of papers marked individually.
