ECP issues notice to Imran over 'offensive language' during electioneering

Election organising authority mulling over sending notices to Ayaz Sadiq and Pervez Khattak, sources say

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday issued a notice to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan over his use of 'inflammatory language' during the party's election campaign, Express News reported.

According to reports, Khan has been issued the notice for using inappropriate and derogatory language against his political opponents. The decision was made after taking stock of the former cricketer's speeches.

Sources said that Imran has been summoned to appear before a four-member bench, scheduled to conduct the ECP hearing in Islamabad.

Moreover, the commission is mulling over sending notices to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Pervez Khattak on similar complaints. The ECP is also looking into the use of inflammatory language by other other candidates as well.



On Tuesday while electioneering in various parts of the country, Pakistan People's Party chief Bilawal Bhutto said that Imran and PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif were using abusive language against each other and such trend in politics would be dangerous for the country.

The mainstream political leaders should not involve in such practices as it was important to impart knowledge to the youth as to how they could contribute towards national development in a positive way instead of training them to involve in such exchanges, he added.

“The low-level of politics was very dangerous for the future of our country,” Bilawal stated while addressing a gathering of supporters in the federal capital.
