In the line of duty: ‘Honour our children’

LAHORE:

“People should understand the sacrifices the military personnel are making to rid the country of terrorism,” the families of Syed Yasir Abbas and Captain Ali Mehmood Khan said. They said they wanted their children to be honoured.

Saba Jafar, mother of Syed Yasir Abbas, a casualty of the PNS Mehran terrorist attack, recalled that he had wanted to join the Pakistan Air Force as a fighter pilot. She said because of weak eyesight, he could not clear the physical exam and later joined the Pakistan Navy. She said he was the most obedient of her all children. She said his father, Syed Jafar Abbas, and both grandfathers, Syed Shahanshah Hussain and Col Aslam Chaudhry, had served in the armed forces.

Abbas was the only brother of three sisters. His sister, Zainab Abbas, said he never let anybody speak against the military or the country. She said their family had been planning a visit to a hill station in the north on Abbas’s next visit home. He was laid to rest at Cavalry Ground graveyard on Tuesday.

provoked! | 13 years ago | Reply @Raza: were u watchin a live telecast of the whole attack ??or are you the one who was surveying the area with night goggles :p???Maybe you got the whole info from the 2 men who ran away after attacking???pathetic!!!how cud you say that he didnt even fight at all???if thats the case then why is the navy AND the media praising him so much??he risked his life and decided to battle the terrorists..That is a MAJOR act of bravery ..how many of us can even think about it???but its very convenient for someone to sit in a comfy environment (when at the very moment somewhere some young soldier is sacrificing his life battling the extremists and insurgents)AND belittle the sacrifices of our heroes,,i do agree that the other soldiers deserve equal attention and should be highlighted in the media BUT NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO BELITTLE THE SACRIFICE OF A MARTYR JUST ONE THE BASE OF PERSONAL BIAS,!
