Five-day event: Symposium on electoral history concludes

A symposium on 50-year-long electoral history of Pakistan concluded at the University of Management and Technology

LAHORE: A five-day symposium on the 50-year-long electoral history of Pakistan concluded at the University of Management and Technology on Tuesday.

The event was organised in collaboration with Gallup Pakistan and the University of Gujraat. The aim of the symposium was to foster research and to discover factors that could pave the way for stronger, better democracy in the country.

UMT Chairman, Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad stated that Pakistan was going through a new culture of democracy where the younger generation was expressing enthusiasm and passion for the elections.

Gallup Pakistan Chairman Dr Ijaz Shafi Gillani said that there was a dire need to encourage university students to study politics, democracy and the electoral process. Renowned journalist Mujibur Rehman Shami also addressed the gathering. He stressed on the need for introducing reforms in the electoral process so that they are not labelled controversial.
