PIA’s pension fund

Letter July 18, 2018
The retired employees of Pakistan International Airlines are being subjected to injustice

KARACHI: I would like to draw the attention of the Chief Justice of Pakistan towards the injustice the retired employees of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) are being subjected to. As per rules, all other government organisations give their retired employees 50 per cent of their last-drawn salary as pension. This had also been in practice in PIA till the end of 2003, but the management that took over later reduced the pension fund.

Sometime back, a delegation of retired PIA employees had met the then CEO of the airline who assured them of an increase in pensions after approval from the Board of Directors, but the said approval is yet to come. I, therefore, request the top judiciary to take suo-motu notice of the issue and hear the pleas of the retired employees of the national carrier.
