Diamer-Bhasha dam affectees urge CJP to order compensation for land acquired

The land owners meet the top judge during his visit to Gilgit-Baltistan

The affectees of Diamer-Bhasha dam on Tuesday urged Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar to order the release of compensation for the land acquired from them to build the dam.

The affectees met the CJP during his visit to Gilgit-Baltistan, said an official statement by the top court.

The land owners pleaded that they had not been compensated for their land surrendered for the aforementioned purpose.

Justice Nisar assured the owners that their issues will be resolved in accordance with the law, the statement added.

The top judge also visited different areas of Gilgit-Baltistan including Naltar, Hunza, Altit Fort, Baltit Fort and Attabad Lake where he was warmly welcomed by the locals.

The locals discussed their legal issues with the CJP and urged that their grievances be redressed.

Earlier this month, Justice Saqib Nisar ordered the government to immediately start construction of the crucial Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand dams.

Funds have been pouring in ever since with the armed forces, government institutions and general public donating for the cause.
