Khan was released on bail from the central jail on 23 May after the Sindh High Court revoked his life term.
A lower court awarded life term to Khan and another MQM-H leader Afaq Ahmed in the murder case of Farooq Ahmad who was brother of MQM provincial minister Haroon Siddiqui. The case was registered by Landhi Police against Ahmad and Khan in 1998.
Additional District and Session Judge East Ubaid Ahmad Khan sentenced both of the accused to life imprisonment with fine.
In the last hearing, Sindh High Court rejected government’s request to shift the hearing to the Shariat Court. The court suspended the sentence of both the accused and directed government to release them.
Ahmed was accused in the target killing of MQM’s Farooq Baig on May 2, thus delaying his release, despite being awarded bail and deposition of Rs.300,000 as surety.
