Impartial media coverage

Letter July 14, 2018
The turbulent political situation is the centre of media’s attention these days

LAHORE: The turbulent political situation is the centre of media’s attention these days. However, while covering the situation that is unfolding every minute the media seems to have picked its sides. An identical situation prevails in both the electronic and print media. The headlines of major news stories appearing in newspapers these days reflect the opinion of either the writer or the media house one writes for. The most important element of journalism, however, is impartiality and unbiased statement of the facts. Therefore, one can always give one’s opinion but not present it as news. Also, at the same time it is important to cover all topics which are of national concern or impact a large number of people. For instance, talk shows on news channels should have conducted discussions and talks on the failure of city governments within their jurisdictions.
