Lack of sincerity

Numerous acts of generosity by our politicians are only for the sake of publicity

KARACHI: There’s no denying the fact that numerous acts of generosity by our politicians are only for the sake of publicity. When a social, political or any renowned personality makes it to the inauguration ceremony of some welfare or charity organisation, it helps them create a positive image in the eyes of the public. Yet few actually are committed to such causes wholeheartedly. A case in point is that of the schools adopted by a few MNAs and MPAs of Punjab under the programme Parho Punjab Barho Punjab initiated by former chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The adoption has failed to change the fate of these schools or of the students who study there. Several schools are being run without basic facilities like washroom, guards and poor student-teacher ratio, etc.

Who is there to question those who signed up to take care of these schools and then never bothered to work towards the cause? As many as 162 schools in the province were ‘adopted’ by more than 100 MPAs of the province and the remaining by MNAs. The ‘false’ act of adoption neither made any difference in the state of affairs at these schools nor did it make any contribution to society. The pretentious act only gave these MPAs and MNAs the press and media attention.
