PESHAWAR: Four people have contracted the dengue virus in Peshawar on Tuesday which has prompting healthcare authorities to declare a possible outbreak alert.
The Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) reported a dengue case from Achini Union Council on the outskirts of Peshawar.
After the case was dealt with, officials involved in Dengue Control Programme left for the village for carry out a field survey.
Upon reaching the area they found three more residents had tested positive for the deadly virus.
"In the door-to-door detection survey, 10 houses were detected with larvae," a senior health official told The Express Tribune.
The official said that apart from the initial patient to contract the dengue virus, the rest are in a stable condition and have not been hospitalised so far.

"We are working in close coordination with the KTH administration," he added.
In September last year, the province was gripped with one of its worst dengue outbreaks with hospitals overflowing with cases.
More than 60 people lost their lives in the province with the lion's share of cases being reported in the capital city of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).
The World Health Organisation (WHO) revealed that the outbreak in the city was mainly owing to the uncovered water containers used in houses and workshops.
Officials believe last year's outbreak started in the Tehkal neighbourhood and then spread to other parts of the district.
The K-P health department mapped the district to pin point areas where most of the cases were reported.
This year 22 cases have been confirmed in K-P while 16 patients contracted the virus from other provinces.
