Devolution: Swat Museum handed over to K-P

PESHAWAR: The federal archaeology department has handed over 91 archaeological sites, the Swat Museum and the sub-regional office to the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa archaeology directorate, as part of the devolution under the 18th amendment.

“We have been given charge of 91 archaeological sites, including some of the most famous locations included in the World Heritage list of Unesco,” director of the archaeology department Saleh Muhammad said.

The sites, he said, will be surveyed for damage before the province formally takes charge and a report will be submitted to the Inter Provincial Coordination Committee. He said that about 113 employees of the department had also been accommodated by the provincial government.

The sites, he said, include Takht Bhai, Jamal Garhi, Jhoolian and Phallian sites of Taxila.
