Islamabad police arrest 139 street criminals in ongoing year

Officials recover gold ornaments, laptops, mobile phones and stolen cash

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Police have arrested 139 suspects involved in 66 cases of street crimes and robberies during the current year and recovered stolen valuables worth Rs19 million including gold ornaments, laptops, mobile phones and stolen cash from their possession, a police spokesman said here on Monday.

SSP Islamabad Najeebur Rehman Bugvi directed all police officials and Station House Offices (SHOs) to launch an aggressive campaign against those involved in street crime.

During this drive, the capital police obtained records of former criminals who remained involved in street crimes and arrested 139 suspects.

City Circle Police arrested 20 street criminals; Saddar Circle police arrested 27 street criminals.

Likewise, Industrial area police nabbed 45 criminals and Rural Circle police arrested 47 such criminals and recovered stolen items, gold ornaments, cell phones and cash from them. Police completed the investigation of 66 cases of street crime as well as robberies and forwarded them to the relevant courts after completing investigation.

Street crime on the rise in Islamabad

SSP Islamabad Najeebur Rehman Bugvi has directed all Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) and Station House Officers (SHOs) to ensure effective patrolling in their jurisdictions and take stern action against any criminal activity.

He also directed officials to ensure vigilance against the suspects and make effective checking at all entry and exit points of the city.

"It is our prime responsibility to ensure protection to the lives and property of the citizens.

Police officials neglecting their duties or adopting a sluggish attitude will not be spared and strict disciplinary action will be taken against them," the SSP maintained.

Meanewhile Nilore police have also booked at least nine persons for allegedly attacking a man over a land dispute in Mohra Chirah.
