Increase in SHOs to help counter crime

Inspectors from Lahore, Sargodha and Sialkot have been appointed to Faisalabad

FAISALABAD: After a period of eight years, the number of inspectors appointed as station house officers (SHOs) has been increased to 41 at various police stations in Faisalabad.

Prior to this, eight inspectors were appointed as SHOs at the police stations. The move will help curb criminal activities in the district.

At least 29 inspectors and 42 sub-inspectors are currently performing their duties at different police stations as investigation in-charges. However, the seat for investigation in-charge at the women’s police station is still vacant.

While providing details, police officials told Express News that there are 41 police stations in five divisions of Faisalabad.



In the eight police stations of Lyallpur Town division, as many inspectors and seven sub-inspectors are performing duties as investigation heads, while no officer has been appointed as investigation in-charge at the women’s police station.

Similarly, in eight police stations of Madina Town division, three inspectors and 13 sub-inspectors are performing duties in the investigation wing.

In 10 police stations of Saddar Town division, at least seven inspectors and 13 sub-inspectors are working as investigation officers.

In eight police stations of Iqbal Town, seven inspectors and nine sub-inspectors are working as investigation in-charges.

In seven police stations of Jaranwala division, two inspectors and 12 sub-inspectors are performing duties as investigation in-charges.

Officials told Express News that in 2010, the then RPO Aftab Ahmed Cheema, CPO Bilal Siddiqui Kamyana and SSP investigation Rai Zameer, after consultation, removed inspectors appointed to various police stations. They appointed newly-promoted sub-inspectors as SHOs in their place.

The same inspectors remained posted as SHOs in various police stations for eight years. However, the current police officers have appointed inspectors from Lahore, Sargodha and Sialkot to different stations in Faisalabad.

Meanwhile, the duties of sub-inspectors and SHOs, who had been posted earlier, have been changed to general duties and some were shifted to other districts as SHOs.

Officials said that more than 40 inspectors in Faisalabad are performing duties in police lines and other places. Punjab IG Syed Kaleem Imam transferred and posted several inspectors from Faisalabad as SHOs to police stations of Lahore.
