Politicians tend to ‘forget’ Balochistan

Balochistan province still stands at the bottom of any party’s priority list for election campaigning

LAHORE: As often pointed out in the media, Balochistan province still stands at the bottom of any party’s priority list for election campaigning. Leaders are often seen and heard referring to their development works in Punjab, K-P or even Sindh but one rarely gets to hear Balochistan’s reference in any such context. Perhaps the province has lately turned into a no-go zone for the political cadre, who excluding the brag about CPEC and its economic benefits blatantly ignores the province and its regions where millions live every day of their lives under the shadow of fear. No politician dares to speak of the suffering of those Baloch who have lost their dear ones to militancy, terrorism and to the internally-fractured law and order situation.

As to mend the case of Balochistan, it would take much beyond the development of roads or any bus projects. Parties have rather considered it safe not to touch upon the unhealed wounds of the region and its masses. Meanwhile, they still have three other provinces and millions of the populace to boast of their achievements and mask the failure.
