SARGODHA: The Punjab agriculture department has made the necessary arrangements to sell seed kits at subsidised rates to promote kitchen gardening in the province.

The step has been taken to create awareness about the importance and utility of homegrown fresh vegetables across the province and kitchen gardening culture.

‘Kitchen gardening gaining popularity’

An agriculture department spokesperson said on Monday that the department was providing vegetable seeds packets which contain varieties of all major seasonal vegetables that can be grown in pots.

He added the objective behind promoting kitchen gardening was to enable people to cultivate fresh vegetables grown without the use of poisonous sprays and insecticides. He maintained in the first phase, thousands of seed kits had been provided to people at Rs50 per packet from various sales outlets of the department. He urged the community to take advantage of the seed packets.
