ISLAMABAD: Terming allegations leveled by former Senator Kamil Ali Agha a pack of lies, Senator Rehman Malik of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) said he did not meet former prime minister Nawaz Sharif nor was he mediating between the PPP and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

Malik said that the allegations by Agha made during a TV talk show had been ‘fabricated’ and ‘ill-motivated, adding that they were all ‘false claims’.

He said the allegations were part of a ploy to defame him and his party in the election season.

Malik did appreciate Agha as a veteran politician, but said he did not expect him to issue such irresponsible statements without any substantive evidence.

“If Kamil Ali Agha proves that I met Nawaz Sharrif, I will quit politics,” he challenged.

Malik said he had instructed his legal team to serve a libel notice of Rs1 billion on Agha and the private TV channel which telecast these allegations without even bothering to ask him of his opinion during the same talk show or even later.

He said he expected all senior politicians, including Agha, to act in a responsible manner and avoid promoting such disinformation and fabricated stories without any basis.

He urged Agha to either retract his statement or produce evidence in support of his claims.
