Seven new cops posted in the capital police

Two SSPs transferred out of Islamabad; SPs, SDPOs shuffled

ISLAMABAD: Seven new police officers have been posted in the capital to fill various vacant slots while two officers have been posted out of the Islamabad Police after the move was cleared by the apex election body.

Moreover, the Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Captain (retd) Mushtaq Ahmed has also been replaced, with Muhammed Hamza Shafqaat appointed in his stead. Capt Ahmed had served as the capital’s deputy commissioner for over three years and has now been transferred to the National Highway Authority (NHA).

Islamabad Police Inspector General Jan Muhammad, who was appointed the capital’s police chief a few days ago, had requisitioned the services of officers from other parts of the country to fill empty slots in the capital’s police force.

Of these, five officers were sought from the Punjab Police, one from Sindh Police, and one from the Motorway Police.

After the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) approved the request, Faisal Ali Raja, SSP Abdul Qadir Qamar, SSP Mujahid Akbar, SSP Sikandar Hayat, and SP Gulfam Nassir were transferred to the capital from Punjab. Similarly, SSP Kamran Adil of the Motorway Police and ASP Hassan Jahangir of the Sindh Police were transferred to the Islamabad Police.

Raja has been posted as the Operations deputy inspector general (DIG) In the capital. Kamran Adil was appointed as Establishment AIG, Qamar as Operations AIG, Mujahid Akbar as Special Branch AIG, Sikandar Hayat as AIG General, Gulfam Nasir as Special Branch SP and Hassan Jahangir was appointed as SDPO Aabpara Circle.

The capital police have also surrendered two of its officers to the Establishment Division for posting out of Islamabad Police. These include SSP Asmatullah Junejo and SSP Malik Matloob.

SSP Junejo had been famously dispatched to the hospital by a group of protesters on what was his first day on the job in the capital on September 1, 2014 as he tried to stop them from advancing towards the Parliament House on Constitution Avenue during the combined sit-ins of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

He, however, had returned to the capital police after a three-year hiatus last October.

Apart from new postings, almost all the SPs, DSPs and SHOs have also been shuffled in the past week. SSP Muhammad Suleman who was working as AIG-Establishment has been appointed SSP Security while Captain (retd) Zeeshan Haider, who was working as Supreme Court SP, has been appointed as Saddar Zone SP.

Liaquat Niazi has been transferred from the Special Branch and posted as the Rural Zone SP while Hassam Bin Iqbal has been appointed as the Industrial Area SP. Aamir Khan Niazi has been appointed in the City Zone while Ahmed Iqbal has been posted as Supreme Court SP.

ASP Omar Khan and ASP Sayed Aziz have been given the charge of SP-DPD and SP-SSG respectively while ASP Zohaib Ranjha posted as SDPO Saddar Circle. Several other DSPs and inspectors have also been shuffled.

In the letter the police sent to the ECP, they had explained that these postings and transfers were required to cope with the operational duties and for the conduct of free and fair general elections in the capital.
