KARACHI: Caretaker Chief Minister Fazalur Rehman directed the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and other local bodies to ensure proper cleanliness and provision of necessary facilities in areas where polling stations will be set up.
This he said while talking to Mayor Wasim Akhtar who called on him at the Chief Minister House on Friday.
The CM said that he has already directed the local bodies to keep their respective areas neat and clean and get all the roads and drainage system repaired, if required, so that people could reach to their polling stations to cast votes without any problem.
He said that most of the roads in the city have been reconstructed, but some streets and lanes have overflowing gutters and carters. “I want all these dilapidated roads and gutter systems to be fixed before polling day,” he said.
“We [the caretaker setup] want to ensure a good atmosphere across the province when polling starts,” he commented.
The mayor assured the CM that he would ensure proper maintenance of roads and drainage system and also coordinate with other local bodies for cleanliness and repair work in the city.
He informed the CM that the cleaning work of nullahs has started and will be complete within the next few days. “This will develop an impact over the disposal of waste water in the city,” the mayor said.
Visit to SMB Fatima Jinnah school
Meanwhile, Rehman visited the SMB Fatima Jinnah Government Girls School in Garden and lauded the efforts of Shahzad Roy in making the school a model institution.
He visited different classes, computer and science labs and other facilities established in the school by Roy’s Zindagi Trust. He also went throught the contents of the textbooks used in the school at pre-primary level and termed it as ‘impressive’ and an easy resource for the children to understand and pick up from.
Roy briefed the CM over the modern teaching methods adopted at the school and told him the problems faced by him in further improvement of the school’s academics. The CM assured Roy of his support.
