BERLIN: McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh is optimistic ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix, claiming his cars will be well suited to the unique demands of the track there.

The quick lap time on the unique street circuit is less dependent on efficient downforce. According to Whitmarsh, the McLaren MP4-26 has proved to be quick on tight sections of the circuit and that gives the team boss hope of a successful weekend.

“McLaren has an enviable record around the streets of the principality as we’ve won the race on 15 occasions which is more than any other team and we go into next weekend aiming to make it 16,” he said.
