Inhuman interrogation tactics

Letter June 28, 2018
Unjustified torture tactics are used by the police and law-enforcement personnel against suspects

LAHORE: Given the frequency with which unjustified torture tactics are used by the police and law-enforcement personnel against suspects as part of the investigative procedure, a coherent policy restraining its use is needed more than ever. In Pakistan, incidents of suspects dying in police custody during the remand period are not uncommon, yet in most of such cases the police or the security personnel conducting investigations in such brutal manner are never questioned. Absence of a code of conduct restraining the police from employing inhumane methods of interrogation has often led to forced confessional statements and therefore unjust judgments.
