KARACHI:

The conflict between parallel groups claiming to run the Pakistan Badminton Federation (PBF) has resulted in the country’s top players boycotting the upcoming 54th National Badminton Championship, as there will be no ranking points for participating in the tournament.

Pakistan’s top player Wajid Ali said players have decided against participating as the World Badminton Federation has suspended the country’s membership due to the power-struggle between Aamir Rokhri and Nazar Muhammad Gondal, each claiming to be the president of PBF. “Taking part in the national championship is worthless since we don’t get ranking points for it,” Ali told The Express Tribune.

Top doubles players Rizwan Azam and Kashif Sulehri have also decided against participation stating that most players in the country are united in their stance to boycott all events held by either group.
