KARACHI: The Sindh High Court has disposed of a case concerning 500 square yards of land off University Road and given a verdict in favour of the University of Karachi.

A KU press release said Sunday that petitioner Usman filed the constitutional petition in 2008 after receiving legal notices from KU.

The petitioner said that they had acquired the land in 1988 through an auction and went ahead with construction in 1995. It stated that at the time of construction no one had claimed the land on KU’s part.

On the instructions of the vice chancellor, a counter affidavit was filed before the court through advocate Shoaib Ashraf stating that the entire land of the area belonged to the University of Karachi.

They also submitted a approved map of the survey of Pakistan in which 7.24 acres of land was shown as a property of the university.

KU’s lawyer sought the court’s permission to file a case against the petitioner and the CDGK to establish its rights.

The court disposed of the petition with the observation that the University of Karachi could seek the enforcement of or establishment of its rights over the property and establish its claim and rights in accordance with the law.
