Not elections, my mother's health is my top priority: Maryam Nawaz

An accountability court in Islamabad granted a three-day exemption to the deposed premier and his daughter

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz said on Monday that her mother's health is her top priority and that she isn't thinking about politics or the upcoming elections.

Earlier on Monday, an accountability court in Islamabad granted a three-day exemption to deposed premier Nawaz Sharif and his daughter in view of Kulsoom Nawaz's deteriorating health. The ex PM's legal team submitted medical records along with the petition.

While speaking to the media outside Hartley Clinic in London, Maryam said, "There are certain moments in your life where you have to leave everything to tend to your responsibilities. Some relations come above everything else."

"As soon as my mother is better, I will depart for Pakistan," added former premier Nawaz Sharif's daughter.

She further said there will be time for elections later on, but for now [her] prime importance is Kulsoom's well being.

When asked how the family would react if the accountability court denies exemption from court hearings henceforth, Maryam said, "Yeh waqt bhi guzar jayega [this too shall pass], adding "we will remember who played what role throughout the painful process".

Dismissing rumours that the family will flee the pending proceedings, Maryam said that "both of us will return to Pakistan as soon as my mother is better," she said.
