Supremacy of national interests

However, India isn’t one all-weather friend that would support the US at the cost of its own interests

ISLAMABAD: Often India is the first country to back the US on the pretext of threats to its own stability and security. Be it CPEC, development of Gwadar port, US-China trade war, every issue more or less is of concern to India and an instant reason for its support to the US. The US too returns the favour by backing India over issues like the Kashmir conflict and water dispute with Pakistan.

However, India isn’t one all-weather friend that would support the US at the cost of its own interests. Unlike Pakistan, which has incurred more of losses to fight and win America’s war on its own land, India rather chooses and decides where to lend the US a supporting hand and where not to.

Recently, India refused to halt its trade with China amid the US’s trade tension with the latter and now despite the US’s reservations it is set to start the Chabahar port with Iran. Where every state must priortise its own interests over its relations with other states, such instances is a lesson for Pakistan to learn a thing or two.
