University in Sindh cuts trees down and sells them at allegedly low prices

KARACHI: Programmes and initiatives to counter climate change threat will fail to serve the purpose if the causes which have led to climate change are not first dealt with. Two separate reports raise the question. On the one hand, the Green Pakistan Programme initiated on the president’s instructions claims to have nearly achieved the tree planting target for Sindh province by planting 16 million trees out of the targeted 20 million. On the other hand, a university in Sindh cuts trees down and sells them at allegedly low prices.

As enough emphasis has already been put on the importance of planting trees to control the rapidly increasing temperatures and to keep the rainfall cycle in place, and governments have failed to do the necessary it is important that the court takes notice of the incident and punishes those found guilty.
