Newly-appointed ambassador to the United States (US) Ali Jahangir Siddiqui presented credentials to President Donald Trump on Friday at the White House.

Siddiqui assumed charge of the crucial post on May 30. His appointment as envoy came four days before the tenure of the then Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government ended.

Siddiqui's appointment raised eyebrows nationwide with many diplomats also expressing surprise over the development. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had earlier urged Prime Minister  Nasirul Mulk to rescind Siddiqui’s appointment.
