Early closure of shops

KARACHI:
This is with reference to your report ’59 per cent unhappy with early closure of shops’ (May 28). In the entire developed world shops are open at eight or nine in the morning and close by five or six in the evening. It is in Pakistan that shopkeepers have developed this bad habit of not opening shops before at least noon and keeping them open till late in the night. How hard is it to understand the fact that electricity can be saved and diverted for use to residences and result in reduced loadshedding if shops close by eight in the evening?

This still leaves people enough time after work to shop and buy the things that they need to get for their homes or personal use.
