Art and skill of film-making

None of the five Pakistani films released this Eid have earned even moderately average reviews from the critics

LAHORE: Out of the five Pakistani films released this Eid, none has managed to earn even moderately average reviews from the critics. Where these movies managed to attract families to the cinema houses, we ourselves witnessed many leaving the multiplexes even before the intervals disappointed by the fact that the Pakistani film industry has perhaps hit a slump before even reaching its boom.

What local film-makers need to realise is that gone are the days when film viewers would go to the cinemas just to watch anything but not a concrete film plot and storyline. It is commendable that new and young filmmakers are passionate to join the league, however it is important that they make it through the learning and training process before delving deep into the pool of film-making. Storytelling to visual audience via a film is both an art and a skill combined and hence both need time to simmer to create a true depiction and expression of what is being told.
